Buying contact lenses online is both safe and easy. It is also a great way to save money on your contact lenses.
But you need to make sure you can read your prescription correctly so you can order contact lenses that fit your eyes correctly.
Read on to find out all you need to know about how to read your contact lens prescription.
General Information
Please ensure you use the most recent, valid prescription provided to you by your eye care professional.
To place an order with Quicklens, you need to know the following information:
- Power, Base Curve and Diameter (PWR, BC & DIA respectively)
- Cylinder and Axis (CY & AX - Astigmatism/Toric lenses only)
- Addition (ADD - Presbyopia/Multifocal lenses only)
What do the different specifications mean?
PWR/SPH/D
This represents the visual correction required (ie -1.00, -7.50, -9.00). The higher the number, the stronger the correction. 0.00 PWR is available on coloured lenses for customers who do not require correction.
BC
Base Curve represents the curve of the contact lense (ie 8.3, 8.6, 9.0)
The smaller the number, the more the curvature increases. Curvature ensures a comfortable fit in the eyes.
DIA
Represents the Diameter of the contact lens. Usually, this is a uniform size, but certain lens types may have more than one size available.
CY/AX
Cylinder and Axis are specifications required for ordering contact lenses for astigmatism
ADD
A specification on multifocal or bifocal lenses, Addition determines the amount of corrected needed to see clearly at a close distance. ADD can be a positive figure between 0.50 - 3.00. Some contact lens brands call this low, medium, or high.
